V2 Grader Summary

The agent correctly identified that bridge mode on a regular modem caused loss of connectivity, guided the customer through a factory reset and 5-press pairing, and restored both nodes to solid white/blue status. The customer ended the call satisfied, and no escalation was needed.

V1 Case Analysis

Customer enabled Bridge Mode on MX6200 and lost access. Agent advised factory reset, provided wrong IP (169.154.250.150), and misapplied 5-press method for node pairing. Internet connectivity not verified. LTS ticket LTS00136200 opened.

Troubleshooting Steps
  • Collected customer name, phone number, and serial number
  • Asked about ISP and node topology
  • Instructed to access router via incorrect IP (169.154.250.150)
  • Guided through 20-second factory reset on both nodes
  • Advised 5-press method on child node (incorrect for MX6200)
  • Opened LTS ticket LTS00136200
Key Observations
  • Agent provided an incorrect and invalid default IP address (169.154.250.150) instead of 192.168.1.1 or myrouter.info [09:00].
  • Agent incorrectly instructed the customer to use the 5-press method for child-node pairing on an MX6200, which is not supported for node addition (correct method: Pair button or Instant Pair) [32:00].
  • No verification of internet connectivity or successful mesh reconnection was performed after reset.
  • Agent failed to collect or confirm warranty status despite relevant troubleshooting.
  • Agent maintained a professional tone but provided materially flawed technical guidance.
Positive Highlights
  • Agent collected customer details (name, phone, serial) for case tracking.
  • Correctly advised against using Bridge Mode with a standalone modem.
  • Opened an LTS ticket (LTS00136200) for engineering follow-up.
  • Maintained a calm and professional tone throughout the call.
Agent Errors / Gaps
  • Provided wrong router access URL (169.154.250.150) — not a valid Linksys default IP.
  • Instructed use of the 5-press method for child-node pairing on an MX6200, which is incorrect (correct method: Pair button or Instant Pair).
  • Did not verify that Bridge Mode was disabled or that internet connectivity was restored after factory reset.
  • Failed to confirm warranty status when relevant to support path.
  • Mischaracterized Bridge Mode as extending Wi-Fi coverage (it does not) [30:00].

Welcome to Linksys support. To ensure quality service, your call may be monitored. Certain products will be supported, while end of support products will have self-help options available. Please have your serial number ready and stay on the line for assistance. While waiting, you may also visit support.linksys.com for more information about your product. [silence] I thank you for calling Linksys. My name is Van and I will help you today.

Speaker 1
Yeah. I was getting a lot of streaming and my other node wouldn't uh, connect. I take it that was a wrong I I think it I think it was the wrong thing to do. No. Yes.

put your MX6200 into bridge mode. may I ask why did you set the unit to bridge mode? I see. let me. alright. before anything else, may I also ask, is this your first time calling to? to verify the phone number that you may have called, was it 5705784547? [silence]
01:00
Speaker 1
It may be under a different number. 570 788 7339 Yes. Yes.
02:00
Speaker 2
All right, thank you so much for patiently waiting, but upon the checking with this phone number 570 578 4547. There seems to be no record created for you. So since there's no record yet, I'll just have to create a new record instead. Can I have your first and last name? What's the alternative number? 570 788 7339. Am I speaking with Sir Tom Beaver? The email address is?
02:00
Speaker 1
Yes. [silence] Um, [silence] yeah. [silence] Are you ready? [silence] It's gonna be [silence] 58 W 10 M 27 D 0 8 9 4 1. [silence] Yes. [silence]

04:00
Speaker 2
How long have you had the Linksys unit as well? Lastly, may I know is the internet service provider? Thank you so much. I believe you have 2 Linksys nodes in total, is that correct? When you set up when you set them up into bridge mode, in what way did you set them up into bridge mode? Was it using a cell phone or a computer or a laptop? Where you using the Linksys app to set them into bridge mode. I see. OK Alright, I'll just put the call on hold for three to five minutes Double checking everything on my end, but it'll be Okay?
04:00
Speaker 1
yes
06:00
Speaker 2
Thank you so much for patiently waiting. Just to confirm, do you have a laptop or computer that you may be able to wire directly to the Linksys? [silence] Alright. Because right now, you're unable to access your Linksys router on the Linksys app since it's currently on bridge mode. So you need to try and access it instead on the web interface. And to access your web interface, you need to type in the default IP address of your Linksys router. Otherwise, if it still would not detect, we might then
06:00
Speaker 1
OK. Let me try to are you want me to go [silence] right from my computer to the router trip? Do you want me to keep connected to my modem?
07:00
Speaker 2
Once you collect all data, try complete factory reset on your Linksys router and reconfigure everything from scratch.
07:00
Speaker 1
Great. Let me get my computer. doesn't matter if it's an apple. Yes, rather than going to my internet switch, I have it plugged directly into the router.
08:00
Speaker 2
plugged into the modem but connect your computer to the Linksys router, is it a good to be wired directly to the router? Okay. If you familiar in how to navigate your Wi-Fi settings on your Apple, please find the default IP address while still connected to the Linksys router. [silence]
08:00
Speaker 1
And then I go to no network. Are you, okay. Are you looking for a wifi address? [silence] Hum it's calling. [silence] One six nine dot 254, dot 250, dot 150.
09:00
Speaker 2
Yes. Yes. what's the default IP address of your Wi-Fi right now? specifically your Linksys Wi-Fi. make sure it's 169. 154. 250. 150. [silence]
09:00
Speaker 1
modem a gateway you mean the brand just the regular modem okay
10:00
Speaker 2
Is your modem a gateway? A gateway? No, your modem, is it a combination of the regular modem and a router combined in one device or is it just a regular modem? Just a regular modem. Thank you so much for that one. I do apologize, but I'll be putting the call on hold again for 3 to 5 minutes to double check everything on my end. since apparently you're getting a different IP address. Would that be okay? Yeah. [silence] Thank you so much for patiently waiting. All right. So, upon confirming on our end, you're currently receiving what we call an epipha or an invalid IP address. The reason for that one is since you only have a regular modem and you also have a regular lynx analysis measurement system, it should be acting as it should be in terms of its relationship, a modem and a router. a linear way. Since you set it to a bridge mode, the modem does not know where to [silence] send the traffic. So it is not being [silence] sent to the router and it's not being sent to you which would be assigning your IP address. So you just switch over to the bridge mode. [silence] bridge mode for bridges modem. [silence] Yeah. We would recommend to redo it again. Use a connection in the back. So this is your modem and the router is the bottom. What you have to do is to change your setting from [silence] private IP to your public IP again, the top. Yes. So we can set it as [silence] your internet protocol or routing. Yes. Correct. Yes. That one. All right. Let's make a move there. Okay. Can I have you modify your Wi-Fi? No, please don't. All right. Well, thank you so much for your assistance as well. You're more than welcome. Can I take a quick break before I move on to the next one? As you can, but we will desegthe call for some time. Okay. Good job. Take care then. You too.
10:00
Speaker 1
Okay. So push the reset on both of them at the same time or one at a time and I push it for how long?
13:00
Speaker 2
To get the internet connection to, resulting to this invalid IP address, the only way to at least try to fix it is to perform a factory reset on your NCS router, which is the only option, and set it back up from scratch. All right, to factory reset your NCS router, you just need to hold the reset button for 20 seconds and that needs to be done on both of them. And once they're back on a solid blue light, it means they're in a ready to set up mode. And you need to configure them again all over from scratch using the NCS app. You can do it one at a time. For 20 seconds or until the light at the top of the NCS is completely goes out. Goucher factory, reset both of them, turn off the child node for now and focus on
13:00
Speaker 1
I'm just powered down. Okay.
15:00
Speaker 2
Only a main one. Unplug it from the power. [silence]
15:00
Speaker 1
it's still flashing blue. um okay, it just went solid okay, Okay, now it went connected white. [silence]
16:00
Speaker 2
Flashing blue.
16:00
Speaker 1
white. solid white. okay. now it's blinking white. [silence]
17:00
Speaker 2
Yes, but is it blinking? Or solid? [silence] Observe for three minutes. double check if it stays that same color.
17:00
Speaker 1
Now it's blinking yellow. Now it's a solid red
18:00
Speaker 2
Is it still flashing white? [silence] Can you double check on the Ethernet connection on the linksys itself? Is the Ethernet cable connected on the internet port?
18:00
Speaker 1
yes. Yes. And I still have my, Go ahead. Uh the computer plugged into the, uh, ethernet above the internet.
19:00
Speaker 2
so it turned flashing white, flashing yellow, and solid red.
19:00
Speaker 1
say that again. unplug the modem, [silence]
20:00
Speaker 2
Unplug the modem and the Linksys for 15 seconds. After 15 seconds, plug back in your modem first. Let it boot up properly before plugging in the router next. [silence]
20:00
Speaker 1
I try to make the other node the main one. It doesn't that matter. Okay,[silence]
21:00
Speaker 2
[silence] Not yet [silence] All right. Once your modem's successfully rebooted, plug back in your linksys router to the power.
21:00
Speaker 1
No, I'm still waiting on my modem. It's flashing internet, yep. Okay, the modem's reconnected. plugging in the router. Uh, now the router's solid blue. [silence]
23:00
Speaker 2
All right, let's just wait for it to reboot properly so that we can, isolate what might be happening as well. [silence]
24:00
Speaker 1
Yes. Now it's solid white. Now it's red. [silence]
25:00
Speaker 2
All right, let's just wait for two minutes. Tell me if there's any other changes. Your laptop is still wired to the router, right? Can you double check also if the Wi-Fi name reverted back to its original, which should be either Lyxys or Vellabood. Yes, you can also double check on the phone. What are the lights on your spectrum modem?
26:00
Speaker 1
what's the spectrum? Solid blue for power, solid blue for internet. And on my phone, it's saying velop setup 16E. Let me try to do that one second. [silence]
27:00
Speaker 2
Yes. What are the lights on your modem? Uh, uh, uh. Oh, all right. On your Linksys, I'm sorry, on your laptop, is it able to detect the wi-fi name? Uh, uh, uh. All right. So the wi-fi name is still visible. How about on your laptop? Is it showing up as a connection that you can try and connect to?
27:00
Speaker 1
B. 5- 026. He safe to 16. And okay. Yes, it connected and it also turned my light white. It is now signal. Okay, so we got one to work. Let's try reset let's See if you can. Okay. Now it's a connection and it's blue and white. Okay. Yeah. Let me just now it's a connection. Blue and white. Oh.
28:00
Speaker 2
00:00
28:00
Speaker 1
Okay. One second. I'm on the Linksys site. yes. It took me to Linksys.com. [silence] That power's on. And it's blue.
29:00
Speaker 2
All right. Can you just if you're able to browse? search anything if it may go online? All right. Now turn on the other child mode near the parent node. All right, it should start blinking blue and let's wait for it to turn to a solid blue after.
29:00
Speaker 1
Okay. She blinked in blue now. Very good. Okay. Any reason why my [silence]
30:00
Speaker 2
All right. So once again, once again, please do not set your device back to any kind of bridge mode. The reason is you only have a regular modem. If you set your device to bridge mode, you will lose internet connection once more. So please do not change it to bridge mode. Not unless if you have a gateway. A gateway is combination of a modem and a router, all in one device. But since you have only a regular modem and a normal mesh system or Linksys routers, there is no need for you to set it on bridge mode. Bridge mode does not extend your network or does not extend any kind of streaming services. The purpose for that one is just to extend your overall coverage of the Wi-Fi.
30:00
Speaker 1
Child, no wouldn't connect to the parent earlier. It was on red for the last uh probably whole day. H. Just the child needed it. Okay. Uh and I'm now solid blue on the child. Oh yes, they're about two feet away. Okay. [silence]
31:00
Speaker 2
Right now, or earlier. Chances are it just got disconnected. So, you needed to factory reset that child node so you can edit back again. Yes, just the child node. If your parent node still turns a solid white no changes and still gives you Internet connection. Only the child node needed some action. Is it near the parent node right now? Perfect. Go back to the parent node. On the parent [silence]
31:00
Speaker 1
Okay, okay. Now, that one's, blinking white, okay, it is blinking blue. [silence]
32:00
Speaker 2
[silence] Node, please perform the 5-press method again. Press, release, wait a second, press, release, wait a second, five times on the reset button. [silence] Thank you so much. Now, let us wait for three to five minutes. Make sure that your child node also starts blinking. [silence] Perfect. [silence] Well let's just wait for three to five minutes until both child node, I'm sorry, both nodes stops blinking. In the meantime, I can provide you your ticket number just in case in the near future [silence]
32:00
Speaker 1
[silence] Okay, go ahead. I'm ready. [silence] Okay, it's LTS 00136200. Okay. And both nodes are now flashing white.
33:00
Speaker 2
sure, we need to call us back. You just need to provide this ticket number, and we can pull up your record. Tell me whenever you're ready. Your ticket number is LTS, lima tango, Sierra zero one three Sierra zero zero six two zero zero. That's correct. All right, let's just patiently wait until it's done blinking.
33:00
Speaker 1
Right now, they're both still blinking white. Okay. The child nodes, a solid white. [silence] Okay, the child nodes, a solid white.
35:00
Speaker 2
tell me if your child node stops blinking. All right, perfect. So, all that's left for you to do is just wait for the parent node to turn solid white, and that's about it. If both of them stay solid white after they're blinking, after they're done blinking for a minute or two, it's safe to relocate the child node back to its original position, and that's about it.
35:00
Speaker 1
Okay. Um, no, no, that was very helpful. Okay. And when I just a one quick question, when I go back to the app, should it see it now? Gotcha. Okay. All right. My other one. Thank thank you very much. Do I need to re change the name or do I keep the name what it is?
36:00
Speaker 2
is there anything else that I can assist you with this well, all right, so once again please do not set it to bridge mode, not unless if you do need it for like extensive purposes. But for this kind of setup, there's no need to put it on Bridge mode so that you don't lose your internet connection again. All right. Yes, it should. Once again, the bare minimum requirement for the app is just your device needs to be connected to the Wi-Fi. All right, so if there's nothing else, once again, thank you so much for calling. Take care and have a great day as well. Call us back if you do have some troubles.
36:00
Speaker 1
I'll sleep I set up 16 E. Will they okay So when I go to the app, how would I just personalize it back? Right now it's in the middle of I'm setting up Let me see. [silence]
37:00
Speaker 2
If you want to, go ahead and re-change it, but if you want to set it simple, you can keep it as it is now. They won't uh they will, but you need to manually reconnect them. If you want to change them back again to your old one, just use the Linksys app so that it can allow you to personalize it back. Yes, the app will guide you through it.
37:00
Speaker 1
So when I go to the app, do I go to complete setup
38:00
Speaker 2
No, you need to log in. You need to quit the setup. You need to quit the setup so that it will allow you to log in instead. [silence] Yes, you need to manage your wi-fi. [silence] Yes.
38:00
Speaker 1
Okay. And that would be the recovery key, correct?
39:00
Speaker 2
You need to reset the password so you can create a new one instead. It's for your login to the app. Yes.
39:00
Speaker 1
[silence] Okay, so that did keep all my stuff still on like I think that looks good. Okay. Thank you very much. Yes. Thanks again. Bye.
40:00
Speaker 2
all right. All right. Says everything. All right. Thank you so much for calling [Lynsess]. Take care and have a great day. Bye-bye for now.
40:00
