V2 Grader Summary

The agent successfully restored access to the router web interface using Microsoft Edge after thorough troubleshooting, but did not verify resolution of the original USB storage refresh issue. The response was technically accurate and well-controlled, though empathy and follow-up planning were limited. No escalation was needed or warranted.

V1 Case Analysis

Customer unable to access router admin UI (blank blue page) due to retired smartgateway.com. Resolved by providing direct UI URL workaround: http://192.168.1.1/ui/local/dynamic/index.html. Access confirmed in Microsoft Edge.

Troubleshooting Steps
  • Cleared browser cache and cookies
  • Tried incognito/private browsing mode
  • Switched browsers (Chrome → Edge)
  • Power-cycled the router (unplugged from modem)
  • Provided direct UI URL workaround: http://192.168.1.1/ui/local/dynamic/index.html
Key Observations
  • Customer succeeded in accessing the UI only after using Microsoft Edge with the direct URL workaround.
  • Agent did not confirm the model despite the customer stating 'MX8500' at the start, and the serial number was partially captured but not verified.
  • Agent spent over 12 minutes on generic troubleshooting before applying the specific KB solution.
  • At [13:00], agent dictated a complex URL without confirming correct input, risking transcription errors.
  • Agent did not document a case number or verify warranty status despite discussing support eligibility.
Positive Highlights
  • Provided the exact KB-recommended direct UI URL workaround at [13:00], which resolved the admin access issue.
  • Persisted through multiple failed attempts and adapted by suggesting Microsoft Edge, leading to success.
  • Confirmed customer access and guided reconnection of the Ethernet cable for internet restoration.
  • Acknowledged the limitations of the app and explained local-only access clearly at [22:00].
  • Maintained a calm and patient tone despite customer frustration and technical complexity.
Agent Errors / Gaps
  • Failed to confirm the product model number despite the customer stating 'MX8500' at [00:00].
  • Asked for the serial number but did not fully capture or verify it (customer provided '4341. 0m 5 3, c 0. 1, 2, 6 3' at [02:00]).
  • Did not create or cite a HappyFox case number at any point.
  • Did not verify warranty status despite discussing support eligibility and asking for the serial number.
  • Repeated ineffective troubleshooting steps (cache clearing, incognito mode) across multiple browsers without learning or pivoting efficiently.
  • Dictated a complex URL (http://192.168.1.1/ui/local/dynamic/index.html) without spelling it clearly or confirming correct entry, increasing the risk of user error.
  • Failed to summarize progress or next steps, leaving the call closure somewhat disjointed.

In the past, I've been able to refresh it by going into the Linksys smart web page, and I'm taking it, that no longer exists. And I'm not able to refresh the the storage device and then see it on my computer in Windows. And so that's where my problem is. I've gone through and tried my local router thing and the IP address and all that. I even swapped out the the the the the towers, the Linksys, Linksys towers from the child to the main and vice versa. And I've had no luck in able to get into the I guess the web page or be able to refresh so I can see this USB drive that I've got attached.
01:00
Speaker 2
And I see. May I have the serial number?
01:00
Speaker 1

Now, it used to be the only access I had was by way of the app on my cell phone and that used to have the external storage on it and it doesn't now. And so,
03:00
Speaker 2
Yeah, for the website linked to smartgateway.com does is not usable anymore, you can only use myrouter.local or the IP address. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Oh, OK. I see. Mm-hmm.
03:00
Speaker 1
I'm in a real quandary on what to do. And in it's telling me that it's a not secure page, but it's also saying there's a message from Linksys now. It says, trying to reach Linksys now, your current device is not connected to the router device. device and is talking about Wi-Fi 7. This is Wi-Fi 6E is what I've got. And so that's what I'm getting. And that's new. And I I I get the same thing when I type in the IP address of 192.168.1.1 [silence] that takes me here. And it says that it's an unsecure error. So I don't want to link up with an unsecure access. So I really do not know what to do. but my device is obviously on Wi-Fi which is not 6E.
04:00
Speaker 2
Okay. Um, try to access again the page using the IP address or my router. DOT local. Then let me know what does the page shows. Yup. Okay, let me just check that one.
04:00
Speaker 1
6.8.1.1. Say that again please. Google Chrome. You want me to [silence] delete the browsing history is what you want me to do? I hate to do that. But I- I just did that.
05:00
Speaker 2

05:00
Speaker 1

06:00
Speaker 2
Okay. Yeah, I see. Hold on. Just a moment. Let me just check, let me just check some work around for that. Can you try to open a private window or incognito tab?
06:00
Speaker 1
You want me to do? I have done this also in the past with no luck, but also willing to try again. I get the same message, trying to reach the Synxis now. That's correct. Okay. I'm going to have to go upstairs and come.
07:00
Speaker 2
and try to access it yeah your router is still connected to your modem right yeah kinda disconnect it from the modem and then um try to access again we will just have a local access access
07:00
Speaker 1
OKI must unplug it, so just hang on a minute, please. OK, it'll take around, five. Okay, I've unplugged it, so let me get back downstairs. [silence]
08:00
Speaker 2

08:00
Speaker 1
You want me to do this in incognito mode? [silence] Okay. [silence]
09:00
Speaker 2
Um, try the normal tab. Try to access it using the normal tab. [silence]
09:00
Speaker 1
He's worried. Yes, I do. I've tried when it was Edge before, and I got the same problem. But I mean... What I have now, when I did my router.local, I've got a blue page, a blank page. Looks like the background of the old link to a Linksys Smart Wi-Fi webpage, and that's all I've got.
10:00
Speaker 2
Do you have, uh, other browsers? Okay. Okay, let's just wait for it to load up. [silence]
10:00
Speaker 1
I can try that. On the regular web page, it's, it's not doing anything. All it is, is it's like I said that the blue screen. Okay. And in the incognito mode, the, the thing's still searching. And all I get is a blue screen.
11:00
Speaker 2
yes.
11:00
Speaker 1
Okay, in incognito mode?
12:00
Speaker 2
See, a blue screen died. So, a moment of I just lost you. open another tab open another tab and then time in the IP address and let me know when's ready. Yes, just an incognito mode. That just an incognito mode.
12:00
Speaker 1
Okay. And the APA address ought to be one, nine, 2.168.1.1. I can view. Okay. I can do that. Oh, I'm getting you. UI is what I need to put. Okay.
13:00
Speaker 2
Can you try to put https: colon forward slash, forward slash, and then IP address? And then after the IP address, forward slash and forward slash for umbrella. For India, yeah, IP address for UI and then another forward slash and then local, another forward slash dynamic update.
13:00
Speaker 1
how do you spell the dynamic, I wanna make sure, I got it, okay, got that, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, html, okay, it's a worm, [silence] 73. Condit, see when d. it all small letters, at Bell South. dot dot that's correct. And it's telling me that the site can't be reached because it took too long to respond. I can reload it or I'm not sure what to do. Okay. Well, you want me to type in that same web page or the address?
14:00
Speaker 2
My address here. So the 7-3 Condon at Bell South Atwood. Okay. McKenna. Can you try to do it on Microsoft Edge? Just to check if it will have the same issue. So, try the IP address first just the IP address and then my router dot local and then that
15:00
Speaker 1
I'm in Microsoft Edge and for- by- by the grace of whatever, I- I have put in the my local, My router.local. The webpage showed up, and I had tried Microsoft Edge before, but it showed up today, and uh, you know, so I'm, I'm, I'm. some some work right. Yep, one do. I I I I I
16:00
Speaker 2
one. And let's check in which of those three websites will work, for a different browser. Hmm. OK, that's good. So you can now log in, using a router password. OK. And then if you can access the web interface, we can now connect your Ethernet back.
16:00
Speaker 1
Oh, I. Got to try and still working on getting logged in. M. Y. I'm in. Okay. Go back upstairs. I'm sorry. It's a that things are for spaced out around the house.
17:00
Speaker 2
Okay. So you can still access it? Okay, yeah. If you can try to reconnect the ethernet cable back for you to have internet. Let's see if it will still work. That's alright. Try to check if they... Yeah, you can still access it. Mhm. [silence] Okay.
17:00
Speaker 1
So I have the ability to do what I need to do, but I don't understand why Google Chrome doesn't work. Okay. It says I do.
20:00
Speaker 2
yeah, so the server might not respond on Google Chrome that's why we have other alternatives for this one. right now. yeah, we really we really have some issues in trying to access web interface as of this moment. that's why we we'll just give our customers some work around to access it and try some steps for it to work. So um, your known is now um, do you have internet connection? Now not yet. maybe it's soon. okay, that's good. and you're still on the web interface.
20:00
Speaker 1

21:00
Speaker 2
Can you try to open another browser and try to access it again? Let's check if you can still access it. Yes, on Microsoft Edge. Yeah, but on different tab. Okay, that's good. Yeah, you can try it that way if you will receive this error again trying to access the web interface.
21:00
Speaker 1
The the the the the the the the app I I I I realize not all the routers you guys put out now have have that ability but and I got stuff on it that I need to have access to so I I so okay I I appreciate that very much [silence] I
22:00
Speaker 2
Yeah. So you can just, um, use the web interface if you wanted to check your storage because, um, yeah, there are some limited features on the app. Especially right now, um, for older models you can no longer, um, access. And yeah, for links to smart Wi-Fi account, it is no longer available. cause that's why links to smart Wi-Fi dot com page, um, is not accessible anymore. So you can not connect your, or you can no longer create an account or link your nodes to your links to cloud account. You can only access it locally using web interface or the app.
22:00
Speaker 1
You're so welcome. Thanks.
